Happy New Year to everyone!
I love the significance of this time of year. A time of new beginnings, setting intentions for the new year and discovering what is alive in one's heart right now.
This time of winter also deeply supports in this intention. We all can see what happens in the spring when everything begins to come to life again and the new plants sprout up from the ground of Mother Earth. It is the winter time, the unseen forces of the darkness where the forces of life are working in a rich and internal way to prepare for rebirth of spring. In this darkness, like a womb, we can begin to notice what is within us that we are feeding or giving our life's attention to. Perhaps there are places within us, younger and more vulnerable places where we created intentions based up misunderstandings and pain that are no longer serving what we are wanting now. These places within us where these old sorrows are yearning to be welcomed and included in our awareness for healing. The richness of this time and how we attend to ourselves informs the birth in spring.
As these intentions are being planted, and we are weeding out the other seeds that are in the womb of our being that no longer support us, I also invite you to include the intentions that Pachamama (Mother Earth) has for you. Many indigenous tribes say that our dreams start off as seeds that get planted in the Earth for her to dream it into being. In this sacred relationship, she has intentions for you. Perhaps you can also become aware of any intentions you have for the Earth. I believe that as our relationship to our Mother Earth deepens, and our intentions aren't separate from her intentions for us (which includes the full health and care for Earth and us), we can begin to shift our attention from the current cultural values that may not be serving this sacred relationship (or our lives) to one that are more Earth-based which include her inherent values.
So, I invite you to go find that special place in nature for yourself. Sit or lie down. Begin to feel the embrace of the Mother Earth, just like a loving Mother embraces a child. As you open to Mother Earth, this amazing Cosmic Living Being, notice where there is tension, holding or pain in your body that is ready to be felt in the healing sacred connection with the Earth. Then let the Earth fill you and know that as this happens, she is filling you with the values of nature. As you feel this connection, you can silently ask, "What is your intentions for me?" Notice what feelings, words, sensations or images arise. Just like all good relationships, the more love, care, time and attention you give it, the richer and more nourishing it becomes.
